Fire chiefs in Staffordshire have been breathing a sigh of relief after just two emergency call outs were received during the latest walkout by firefighters.

Industrial action saw crews strike between 6am and 8am this morning (November 4).

A small field fire in Cannock and an automatic fire alarm going off in a commercial building were the only calls received.

Chief Fire Officer Peter Dartford thanked residents and motorists for taking heed of safety messages.

“As a service we have worked very hard to promote vital safety messages ahead of and during the strike action,” he said. “Local communities clearly took notice of our campaign as the one incident that we attended was a small fire and the only other call we received was to report an automatic fire alarm.

“I would like to thank residents for their vigilance.”
