LICHFIELD City shipped another five goals as their wait for a first league point continues.

The 5-1 home loss against Newcastle Town means boss Matty Lovatt has now seen his side lose all eight of their Northern Premier League West fixtures, conceding 35 goals on the way.

City began brightly with a bicycle kick over the bar in the opening exchanges before they went in front on 12 minutes when a Tyree Sanusi cross was finished at the back post by Abdul Bashiru.

Joel Jones sent an effort wide as Newcastle looked to bounce back from the setback.

The visitors did manage to level things up on the half-hour mark. Keeper Tom Carter produced a fine save to tip Jones' effort onto the crossbar, but Luca Whitney was on hand to tuck home the rebound.

The second half again saw Lichfield come out brightly with a couple of efforts wide of the target.

But the visitors again worked their way back into the game with a good strike from Harry Bower going just wide.

The next goal looked like it would be crucial – and it went the way of Newcastle on 58 minutes as Whitney's ball allowed Bower to finish well.

City's frailties were exposed a minute later when Whitney lobbed Carter to make it 3-1.

It didn't take long for Newcastle to extend their lead when Whitney wrapped up his hat-trick.

Carter produced a good save from Bower and then saw the post come to the rescue as the visitors went in search of number five.

There was no stopping Newcastle though as Oli Ritchie found the bottom corner 13 minutes from time.

Things could have got even worse for City as Callum Knowles saw two good chances go begging in the latter stages.
