A new quad bike racing practice track could be built in Whittington.

Semi-professional rider [Oli Sansom](http://olisansomatv.com/?ref=lichfieldlive.co.uk) has submitted an application for the land to the south east of Ironstone Lane.

He hopes the new track will allow him to develop his career further as well as providing training for other racers.

In a letter supporting the application, a spokesperson said: “Mr Sansom competes across the country and abroad and has recently achieved major success in winning the British title in 2014.

“In order to maintain this standard, Mr Sansom requires training and practice time. In the absence of any nearby facilities he is forced to travel as far afield as Derby between two and three times a week.

“He is now seeking permission for a more convenient track where he can practice his chosen sport.”

The track would feature a series of mounds up to two metres in height. The plans would see it operate between 10am and 4pm Monday to Saturday, with an additional session until 8pm during the summer months.

Full details of the proposal can be seen [on Lichfield District Council’s planning website](“https://planning.lichfielddc.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=summary&keyVal=OE49PJJEHAJ00”).
