Natalie James gets ready for the scratchard giveaway

Lichfield shoppers will be getting some festive cheer – and will get the chance to win a pre-Christmas fortune.

The National Lottery will be offering a free Christmas Millionaire Scratchcard to the first 50 adults who take a Christmas card to a stand in Market Square tomorrow (December 23) between 9.30am and 10.30am.

The promotion coincides with a survey which reveals that pre-Christmas planning goes out of the window when we reach the festive season.

Despite our best intentions and planning lists, over a quarter of us admit to missing the last post with a friend’s gift or card, remembering only when it was too late to sort anything else out. Also:

- 35 per cent of people who admitted to being forgetful, forget to put out things like the stuffing or sauces they have bought to go with Christmas dinner or a buffet.
- 34 per cent of those who forget things on the special day also don’t have enough batteries to get their gifts to work.
- 22 per cent of those forget that they have already bought a present in advance and don’t remember to give it out – maybe because it was stored in a wardrobe or on top of a cupboard.
