# Funding helps Lichfield group organise community picnics

A COMMUNITY group in Lichfield is bringing neighbours together through a series of family picnics after a funding award.

The St John’s Grange Community Group successfully applied for support through Platform Housing Group’s Community Chest.

The group – which is based on the St John’s Grange estate – has received the funds to host six weeks of summer holiday picnics in the local Whittle Street Park and other community events. 

The initiative provides free snacks and drinks to local children once a week throughout the school holidays, supporting around 30 children at each event. 

Organiser Jane Smith said:

> “We’re really proud of our growing community group and want to keep encouraging families to join us.

> “These picnic days are about giving children and parents an opportunity to connect, relax and enjoy their local park without any cost barriers.

> “It’s all about community spirit and making sure everyone feels part of it.”

The group has previously run events such as Easter egg hunts and family races.

Tracey Silk, community engagement officer at Platform Housing Group said:

> “This is a fantastic example of how grassroots community action can make a real impact.
