# Gallery hoping showcase of work by artist will inspire local families to take cultural day out

A LICHFIELD gallery will showcase a new collection of work by artist Doug Hyde.

Clarendon Fine Art is hoping the exhibition will inspire families to enjoy an alternative cultural day out.

Helen Swaby, the gallery's CEO, said parents should consider exploring art.

She explained:

> "Summer offers families the perfect time to slow down and explore together. The simple act of stepping into an art gallery, for instance, can ripple far beyond the day itself – strengthening relationships, boosting well-being and creating moments that last long after summer ends.

> "Artists whose work leans into storytelling and playfulness can be especially powerful in engaging children and opening their eyes to a new cultural experience.  
>  
> "Unlike structured activities or screen-led distractions, galleries offer a different pace – one that encourages curiosity, conversation and creativity."

The Doug Hyde exhibition will be stopping off in Lichfield from 1pm to 3pm on 6th September.

Helen said:

> "We are always thinking about how the art experience feels for every person and we create relaxed, welcoming spaces where families can explore freely, ask questions and engage with art in their own way.

> "When that barrier drops, something clicks. Children are often instinctive in their choices – drawn to humour, colour and character – while parents quickly realise there’s no correct way to look at or respond to a piece.

> "It’s a beautiful thing to witness, one that we want to encourage even more this summer."
