# Gyrocopter pilot airlifted to hospital after crash-landing near Lichfield

The pilot of a gyrocopter has been airlifted to hospital after his craft crash-landed near Lichfield.

The incident happened at Rykneld Street, Fradley, shortly before 2.30pm today.

An incident support officer, an ambulance crew and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Staffordshire attended (July 3).

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said:

> “The gyrocopter came down, landing in a lane, clipping power cables on the way down. There was extensive damage to the back of the gyrocopter.

> “The pilot, a 45-year-old man, had managed to get out. He had a back injury for which he was immobilised with the use of a spinal board and neck collar and was flown to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.”
