HAMMERWICH cruised to a nine-wicket home victory against Walsall.

The visitors won the toss and opted to bat first, but soon found themselves in trouble as Sajid Ahmadzai claimed two wickets and Craig Jennings also chipped in with one to make the score 16-3.

But Walsall found some resistance as William Mashinge struck a fine 99 not out as they recovered to finish the innings on 172-9.

The wickets were evenly spread amongst the Hammerwich bowlers, with six different players claiming at least one victim.

The home side’s batting innings proved to be a ruthless – and short – one as they lost just one wicket when Hashim Iqbal trapped Tom Wright lbw.

But Imran Qadir’s 85 not out from 89 balls and captain Callum Brodrick’s unbeaten 59 from 78 balls eased them past the target set by Walsall.
