A man has been prosecuted by Lichfield District Council after operating an unauthorised caravan site in Hammerwich.

Alexander Holland, 67, of Coppice Lane in Hammerwich, pleaded guilty to using the land at the back of his property as a caravan site, without an appropriate caravan site licence.

Tamworth Magistrates’ Court fined Mr Holland £1,000, and ordered him to pay £400 costs and a £15 victims’ surcharge.

Councillor Ian Pritchard, Lichfield District Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing, Health and Environmental Protection, commented:

> “This is a good result, and I hope it will act as a deterrent to anyone who thinks they can get around the licensing laws. We take this issue very seriously because if a site is unlicensed, it means we have not been able to check that it meets electrical and fire regulations, and that the proper sanitation is in place. So, if you have a caravan on your property, even if it is just one, and you are considering offering it to anyone outside of your household to use, contact us to see if you need a licence.”
