HAMMERWICH got back to winning ways with a commanding 146-run victory at Cannock.

After opting to bat first, the visitors suffered an early blow when Ben Novis was trapped lbw by Ryan Elliott in the very first ball of his innings.

But fellow opener Tom Wright added 27 before being dismissed by Daniel Bowker.

The Hammerwich batting order showed depth though as Callum Brodrick hit 40, Imran Qadir made 27 and Scott Elstone top scored with 64.

Three other batsmen made double figures as the visitors piled on the runs to finish their 50 overs on 228-9.

Cannock went into the game without a win so far this season in the South Staffordshire County League Premier Division – and it wasn’t a statistic that looked like changing as they found runs hard to come by throughout.

Hasnain Nawaz was the main beneficiary of the home side’s batting woes to finish with impressive figures of 6-16 as Cannock were bowled out for just 82.
