A Handsacre nursery has celebrated its first birthday with a donation to the [We Love Lichfield Fund](http://www.welovelichfield.com/?ref=lichfieldlive.co.uk).

The £250 cheque came after the Poppins Day Nursery were inspired by the fund’s work in the community.

Jan Hughes, Director of Poppins, said: “I was privileged to see the We Love Lichfield Fund donate its last series of grants to the local community and I was so taken by how much it meant to those local voluntary organisations who have received some money.

“The fund targeted smaller voluntary organisations who don’t have the infrastructure to raise lots of money themselves so grants of up to £500 makes a huge amount of difference.

“When my wife, Debbie and I discussed our first anniversary in business we decided we want to not only have a party with a big birthday cake but give something back to the community where we work.”

Debbie added: “Our children and their parents are part of the district of Lichfield and some of them have mentioned that the We Love Lichfield Fund has helped their organisations.

“The We Love Lichfield Fund is great because you know that all the money raised goes to the district and nowhere else, and I hope our contribution will benefit some very worthwhile organisations.”

Launched in 2011, We Love Lichfield is a local fund that provides small grants to a wide range of projects based in Lichfield District.

The fund will consider all applications from local groups in need twice a year.

Companies and individuals are welcomed to donate or fund-raise and all money is invested through a permanent endowment fund by registered charity Staffordshire Community Foundation on behalf of We Love Lichfield in line with charity commission guidelines. The interest and dividends earned on the invested money is then distributed by the We Love Lichfield Fund as small grants.

Julian Fisher, Donor Advisor for the fund added: “I would like to thank Debbie and Jan and everyone at Poppins Day Nursery for their kind generosity.

“To celebrate your first anniversary in business by giving to the local community shows great passion for the area and we will use their donation wisely.

“We have received a number of donations from local businesses recently and we welcome their support. Our ability to match-fund means the money is automatically grown and can do even more good.

“It also shows customers and staff that businesses have a genuine desire to be part of the social fabric of the local community.”
