Children at a Handsacre nursery have been learning valuable skills as part of an educational programme based around meal times.

The Cutlery and Kids day at [Poppins Day Nursery](http://www.thepoppinsdaynursery.co.uk/?ref=lichfieldlive.co.uk) saw youngsters taking part in activities aimed at fine tuning their motor skills and teaching them more about meal times.

The event was given a boost thanks to Lichfield firm [Arthur Price](http://www.arthurprice.com/page/index?ref=lichfieldlive.co.uk), which took along a 3ft high knife, fork and spoon as well as giving each child a ‘first’ cutlery set.

The company, which produces a series of children’s ‘first’ cutlery sets, handed over a treat to every child taking part.

Vicky Johnson, manager of Poppins Day Nursery said: “When I saw that Arthur Price have a range of children’s cutlery sets I approached them to see if they could help with our special day as using a knife and fork not only helps develop a child’s fine motor abilities but are life skills.

“They said they loved the idea and to my astonishment said they would give every child a free children’s cutlery box gift set!”

The Princesses and Pirates themed day also featured a special lunch, including treats such as jacket potato pirate ships and golden coin cluster cakes.

Simon Price, CEO of Arthur Price, added: “I’m delighted that we have been able to put a smile on so many little faces and be part of Poppins’ Cutlery and Kids Day which is a fantastic way to educate children about cutlery and meals times through fun.”
