# Health bosses urge residents to stay safe during warm weather

HEALTH chiefs are urging people to take steps to stay safe during warm weather.

Although temperatures are expected to drop slightly over the coming days, another hot spell is forecast next week.

New figures published by the UK Health Security Agency estimate that 2,877 heat-associated deaths occurred in England during the periods of warm weather in May and June this year.

The NHS is reminding people to drink plenty of water, keep cool and check on family, friends and neighbours who may need extra help. 

Dr Rachel Gallyot, Interim Chief Medical Officer for NHS Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin and NHS Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Integrated Care Boards, said:

> "Many people enjoy warm weather, but prolonged periods of hot weather can cause serious health problems, particularly for people who are older, live alone, are pregnant, very young or have existing health conditions.

> "Please do what you can to keep yourself cool and hydrated, and take a moment to check on relatives, friends or neighbours who may be more vulnerable. A quick phone call or visit can make a real difference.

> "We are also seeing increased demand on local NHS services at the moment, so it is important that people use the right service for their needs. Many minor health concerns can be managed at home or with advice from a local pharmacy.

> "If you need urgent medical advice, NHS 111 online is available day and night and can help you get the right care quickly."
