WHITTINGTON suffered a heavy defeat in their weekend clash at Penn.

The visitors opted to send the hosts in to bat first and took an early wicket with just four runs on the scoreboard.

Two more followed as Penn reached 74-3, but an impressive middle order dug in with strong support from the tail to end the innings on 400-8.

It meant Whittington were chasing a hefty total – and when they fell to 79-6 it looked unlikely they would reach it.

The visitors battled to 158-7 but saw the final wickets fall with just 177 runs on the board.
