# Hospice and university team up to create new podcast series tackling taboos around death and dying

A NEW podcast is being launched to help tackle taboos around death and dying.

The series – We’re Dying to Tell You Something – has been created as part of a collaboration between St Giles Hospice and Birmingham City University (BCU).

Maya Davis and Kyle Salmon – students from the Media Production programme – have created four episodes which will launch in May as part of Dying Matters Week.

The pair, alongside lecturer Meera Darji, have worked over a number of months to plan, organise and record the podcast at the Whittington-based hospice.

Listeners will be able to learn more about hospice care, funding challenges and difficult conversations around death, with guests including CEO Elinor Eustace, director of clinical services Leon Ratcliffe, volunteer Joan Fairley and Rachel and Andy Barker who met at a bereavement help point after both losing their spouses.

The series also features extreme fundraiser James Lewis, who ran 430 miles from Paris to Rugeley, community and events officer Charlotte Mills, retail manager Lorraine Ward, community nurse Jack Rees and family member Ann Freeman.

Elinor Eustace said:

The collaboration was announced last year during Dying Matters Awareness Week and was created by the BCU students as part of their course. 

Meera Darji, senior lecturer on the BA Media Production course at BCU, said:

We’re Dying to Tell You Something will see episodes released from May to October on Spotify and all major streaming platforms.
