# Housing plan for Abbots Bromley restaurant is approved

Controversial plans to demolish part of a restaurant in Abbots Bromley and construct two houses has been given the go ahead.

East Staffordshire Borough Council gave the proposals for the Infinitii Restaurant the green light despite objections from local residents.

The work will involve the demolition of the single storey rear kitchen to allow for the rest of the building to be be converted into a five bedroom house. 

The existing car park will also have two three bedroom homes built

Speaking at a meeting of the planning committee, objector Simon Wilson said:

> “The visibility of patrons using the village hall and other facilities on that site when entering and exiting will become non-existent, causing conflict with vehicles and pedestrians with vehicles having to reverse both on to the highway or seek alternative parking arrangements in an already congested village.

> “A large number of children use this site. Any potential construction traffic, especially HGVs will be unable to load and unload due to access.

> “I find it difficult to believe you would allow this when in the past I have had to apply for planning permission listed building consent for a satellite dish – and I have been verbally turned down for solar panels on my roof.”

The Bagot Street venue however has received no objections from technical consultees and two residents supported the proposal.

Planning agent for the application Ben Rayner told planning committee members:

> “This is a fantastic opportunity to invest in our heritage asset, conserving the property into the future. The wider works will remove a car park that loses aesthetic value to the conservation area with architecturally considered dwellings.

> “The proposal ensures the listed building benefits from the key investment it requires, removing inappropriate additions that have been added over time. The two additional dwellings ensure housing is delivered in the village, benefiting from excellent access to services, facilities and public transport.

> “While it is appreciated that the objectors feel the site should be retained as it is currently developed. it is clear that restaurant use is no longer sustainable in its location.”
