HUNDREDS of residents have joined a protest walk against plans for 250 new homes on land in Burntwood.

The group are opposing the Bloor Homes scheme being proposed for the site off Coulter Lane and Church Road.

The residents say they are keen to highlight their views on the development, including claims the land could be classified as “grey belt”.

Tim Hall-Woodcock, from the Burntwood Action Group (BAG), said:

> “It was an historic day for Burntwood. To see 500 people come together in the cold to protect our Green Belt proves that this isn’t just about housing numbers – it’s about the soul of our town.
>
> “We are fighting to preserve a centuries-old heritage and the peaceful, rural atmosphere that our residents prize for their well-being.”

BAG has now submitted a formal objection to Lichfield District Council which highlights heritage concerns as well as a “catastrophic” infrastructure deficit in the town.

Vic Chamberlain, from the group, said:

> “The council has a statutory duty to protect the setting of our listed buildings and the integrity of the green belt.
>
> “You cannot build a modern, high-density estate in a historic hamlet where the drains are already failing and the doctors are full
>
> ” This is the wrong place at the very worst time.”
