The uncertainty caused by Brexit has become “a nightmare”, an independent General Election candidate has claimed.

John Madden made his comments at a hustings event at Wade Street Church.

The local businessman – who said he was standing to give people a chance to protest against traditional politics – insisted it was time to deliver what people had voted for in the referendum.

> “The Brexit uncertainty has become a nightmare.

> “We need to draw a line under this – we need to stop being the laughing stock of the world.

> “As it stands, business clients are keeping their wallets closed because of the uncertainty.

Green Party rival Andrea Muckley insisted her party were clear about the direction Brexit should now go in:
