Two election candidates have become embroiled in an online war of words.

Conservative hopeful Michael Fabricant claimed his Labour rival Chris Worsey had delivered “uninformed nonsense” at a hustings event in Lichfield.

His comments came after Mr Worsey had suggested Mr Fabricant had made claims which “simply do not stand up to scrutiny”.

The Labour candidate said: “At Lichfield hustings, he wrongly denied that there was a plan to cut £12billion from welfare.

“A large proportion of his claims at the Lichfield hustings simply do not stand up.”

But Mr Fabricant hit back at the suggestion.

“With the greatest of respect,” he said. “With all the uninformed nonsense you said at Lichfield hustings, you’re a fine one to talk.”
