LICHFIELD City put themselves well and truly in the play-off hunt with a last-gasp bank holiday winner at Coleshill Town.

Ivor Green’s men looked to be headed for a 2-2 draw until a stoppage time header from Callum Griffin stole all three points.

The result means City are now just five points behind the hosts who occupy the final play-off berth.

Coleshill carved out the first chance of the afternoon when an early flicked header fell wide of the upright – and then Lichfield keeper Brendon Bunn saved well to prevent an opening goal.

The home side eventually got themselves in front when City lost possession and Theo Rowe punished them to make it 1-0.

But Lichfield were level ten minutes before half-time when Luke Childs and Griffin combined for Harvey Smith to slot under Coleshill keeper Cameron Belford.

Things got even better for the visitors a couple of minutes before the break when a patient team move saw Jude Taylor cross for Griffin to poke home and make it 2-1.

But Coleshill levelled three minutes into the second half when Mason Rees fired home through a crowd of players from the edge of the box.

Jack Edwards was denied by Belford from distance as City looked to regain the lead, while Smith also fired into the side netting.

At the other end, Coleshill headed over and also saw a strike hit the upright as both sides looked for a winner.

Lichfield keeper Brendon Bunn saved well as the hosts piled on the pressure.

The game looked to be heading for a draw until City snatched the victory deep into stoppage time when a quick break saw Harry Eden’s cross headed home by Griffin.

There was still late drama though as Finlay Shorrock’s back pass looked to be heading into the Lichfield net, but the ball went just wide to the relief of the visiting fans.
