Councillor Michael Wilcox

The Leader of Lichfield District Council believes the public have backed the ruling Conservatives to protect frontline services after the party increased their majority at the local elections.

The Tories took 46 seats in the vote, with Labour claiming the remaining ten as the Liberal Democrats and independent candidates were edged out completely.

And Cllr Michael Wilcox, who retained his seat in the Alrewas and Fradley ward, believes his party’s ability to increase their majority by two has shown that Lichfield and Burntwood residents are backing the work that is being carried out.

He told *The Lichfield Blog*:

> “We now have a mandate to continue the work that we’ve been doing for the last 12 months with regard to the expenditure review as well as protecting the front-line services that we know are important to the people of Lichfield.
>
> “It does give us that message from the people of Lichfield district that they do have confidence in the council and how it’s being run by my Conservative group.”
