The leader of Burntwood Town Council has stepped down from her role.

Cllr Norma Bacon only [took up the post in June](//lichfieldlive.co.uk/2017/06/12/conservative-councillor-at-centre-of-co-opt-controversy-named-as-new-leader-of-burntwood-town-council/) but has now resigned as leader of the controlling Conservative group for “personal reasons”.

Her appointment as leader came just weeks after she was [controversially voted onto the council](//lichfieldlive.co.uk/2017/05/19/decision-to-appoint-conservative-to-burntwood-town-council-branded-a-disgraceful-action-by-labour-councillor/) by members after Labour claimed an agreement had been made for one of their representatives to be co-opted instead.

She then [outlined plans for a gallery of images of civic leaders](//lichfieldlive.co.uk/2017/07/07/leader-of-burntwood-town-council-defends-plan-for-photo-gallery-of-former-civic-leaders/) to be installed – [a move which was eventually rejected by her colleagues](//lichfieldlive.co.uk/2017/07/20/committee-rejects-inappropriate-and-unnecessary-plan-for-civic-gallery-at-burntwood-town-council/).

Cllr Heather Tranter, Burntwood Town Council’s deputy leader, will lead the authority until a permanent replacement is appointed.
