The Liberal Democrats have urged people in Lichfield and Burntwood to “think hard” about the impact Brexit would have on the area.

The comments come ahead of the European elections on Thursday (23rd May).

The issue of Brexit is expected to be high on the agenda of most voters as they head to the polls.

But Lib Dem councillor Paul Ray said it was important people understood the ramifications of the situation facing the UK.

“I fully understand that people are fed up with the endless Brexit saga,” he said. “But the deadlock has shown that leaving is incredibly complex – and it will harm our economy and country.

“So the attitude can’t be ‘let’s just leave at any cost’. Now we know the detail people are very concerned for their, their children’s, and their grandchildren’s futures.”

“We need to get the country to confirm the way forward in a People’s Vote. It is only right and democratic for the people to have the final say.

Cllr Ray said research funding and jobs would be at risk across the Midlands if the link with Europe is lost.

“Thursday’s vote is very important, not only for our economy and jobs, but to confirm the direction for our future and the type of country we want to be.

” The Lib Dems are by far and away the strongest remain party in Lichfield and Burntwood and the wider West Midlands.

“I urge local people to vote Lib Dem.”
