# Libraries to join the Big Diamond Jubilee read

Libraries in Lichfield and Burntwood are joining a project to get more children reading as part of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

Youngsters will be invited to take a book tour of the Commonwealth and collect reading miles as they complete their chosen books.

Those who complete the Big Diamond Jubilee Read journey will be crowned diamond readers.

There is also a writing element to the competition which gives children a chance to share their thoughts about their favourite book with a youngster in another Commonwealth country.

County councillor Pat Corfield said: “To mark the Queen’s 60 year reign, members of the Royal Family are going on a tour of the Commonwealth – and here in Staffordshire hundreds of young people are following the same journey, visiting commonwealth countries, learning about their cultures and reading stories from each country.

“This is a marvellous project that not only encourages children to read more at school and at home, it allows them to celebrate and learn more about the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. It’s also a great opportunity to promote the county’s libraries.
