# Lichfield and Burntwood bikers urged to take part in safety events

Bikers in Lichfield and Burntwood are being urged to sign up for a new safety course.

BikeSafe is a national police scheme to reduce motorcycle casualties by promoting safer riding.

Motorcyclists represent just one per cent of traffic but nearly a quarter of people killed or seriously injured on the county’s roads are bikers.

At the free workshops, riders will see a road safety presentation highlighting potential dangers with a safety check on their bike before a 20-mile riding assessment with an experienced police motorcyclist who will assess their riding.

The workshops take place on:

- May 22 at Suttons Motorcycles, 361 Watling Street, Wilnecote, Tamworth, B77 5AD.
- June 5 at Foley Motorcycles, 67/69 King Street. Fenton, Stoke-on-Trent, ST4 3LZ.
- June 19 at BS Bikes, 653/657 High Street, Sandyford, Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent, ST6 5PL.
- July 18 at Tamworth Yamaha, Unit Q, Riverside Estate, Atherstone Street, Fazeley, Tamworth, B78 3RW.
- July 24 at CG Chells Motorcycles, 27 Marston Road, Stafford, ST16 3BS.

PC John Edmondson, from the force’s road crime team, said:

> “We would urge local riders to consider coming along to a BikeSafe workshop. The assessments are informal and past attendees have found the advice given to be very helpful. If we can give a rider just one piece of advice that helps them avoid a collision, then it’s very worthwhile. Just giving two hours of your day may gain you a riding tip that could one day save your life.”
