Lichfield and Burntwood’s MP says he cannot back Theresa May’s Brexit proposal as it would dash his hopes for a “global trading Britain”.

MPs will vote tomorrow (15th January) on whether to back the Prime Minister’s Withdrawal Agreement.

Conservative MP Michael Fabricant is among those who say they will not support the party’s leader on the issue.

In [an article in the Daily Telegraph](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2019/01/14/brexit-deal-would-dash-dream-global-britain-cannot-vote/?ref=lichfieldlive.co.uk), the MP said doubts cast on the deal by potential trading partners such as the United States meant that the agreement was not an acceptable one.

His comments come after Woody Johnson, the US ambassador to the UK, said it didn’t appeal possible that a trading deal could be agreed if Theresa May’s deal went ahead. Similar concerns have also been raised by the former Australian High Commissioner to the UK.

Mr Fabricant said: “My dream of a global trading Britain with the brightest of futures would be dashed if the Withdrawal Agreement were passed.

“That’s why I cannot vote for it.

“That first great English global trader and privateer, Sir Walter Raleigh, would be turning over in his grave.”
