# Lichfield and Burntwood residents urged to sign up for Neighbourhood Watch

More people in Lichfield and Burntwood are being urged to join the Neighbourhood Watch scheme as it celebrates its 30th anniversary.

There are around 170,000 co-ordinators in communities across the UK, with Staffordshire boasting more than 13,000 members.

But a new drive is looking for even more volunteers to help keep local areas safe.

Dave Twist, Staffordshire Police crime reduction manager, said: “We’re encouraging people of all ages to join existing NHW schemes or to set up a new police registered scheme in their area.

“Establishing or formalising regular communication with the police, other residents and local businesses makes local communities feel even safer and confident that they’re making a difference in their local area.

“Registration gives access to the Neighbourhood Watch OWL messaging system which can keep you up to date with things taking place in your community, by sending you phone, text or email alerts at a time to suit you.

“It also provides you with a direct link to your local Community Engagement Officer where you can highlight concerns about things taking place in your area.”
