# Lichfield and Burntwood residents warned over possible telephone scam

Lichfield and Burntwood residents are being warned after a possible telephone scam.

The warning comes from Lichfield District Council after a homeowner reported being contacted by someone claiming to be conducting a survey for the council.

And now residents are being urged to remain vigilant and not give out personal details without verifying who the caller is.

Councillor Michael Wilcox, leader of Lichfield District Council, said:

> “It is always a worry to hear that a possible scammer could be targeting residents in the district. This is why we’re reminding everyone to be extra vigilant, and not to give out any personal information or payments, if they are not sure who they are dealing with. If it is a legitimate call, the person will not mind you phoning them back through the main company’s switchboard number.

> “Lichfield District Council’s officers always carry identification cards that should be checked if they are making a visit to someone’s home. The council’s general enquiries number is 01543 308000, which can be called to confirm that the person on the phone is who they say they are.”
