Local writer Phil Preece’s new monologues will premier at the [Lichfield Garrick](http://www.lichfieldgarrick.com/?ref=lichfieldlive.co.uk) on March 28.

The comedy pieces – My Diet From Hell and Such A Laugh – have been written for the [Opus Theatre Company](http://www.opustheatrecompany.com/?ref=lichfieldlive.co.uk).

My Diet From Hell tells the story of Karen and her desperate desire to lose weight, seemingly against all odds. She tries everything – fasting, crisps, the gym, even hypnotherapy, until she meets the man of her dream – or that is, she thinks she has!

The second monologue, Such A Laugh, is a bitter-sweet story of a friend of a friend who accidentally falls in love with completely the wrong person.

The writer of the pieces explained his inspiration:

> “The idea first came to me after watching a number of wonderful professional shows in the Garrick Studio. I wrote these two short plays especially for this space and tailor-made the scripts to the talents of Della and Paulo Allen of Opus Theatre.”

Having known Phil – and his ability to tell more than the odd comical tale in his own unique way – during my time as a Lichfield hack, I’m sure these pieces will be genuinely hilarious.

Tickets for the 7.30pm show are £12 adults and £8 for students. To book, call 01543 412121 or visit the [Lichfield Garrick website](http://www.lichfieldgarrick.com/?ref=lichfieldlive.co.uk).
