# Lichfield & Burntwood residents urged to help track election leaflets

Election Leaflets archives political campaign flyers

The Lichfield Blog is urging residents of Lichfield, Burntwood and surrounding areas to help monitor the leaflets issued by politicians around election time.

With leaflets triggering major events such as the [suspension of MP Phil Woolas and the subsequent Oldham East and Saddleworth by-election](http://www.saddleworthnews.com/?p=2055&ref=lichfieldlive.co.uk) monitoring their content and distribution is an extension of the need to hold power to account locally.

So we’re asking all of our readers to help us with this, by using [ElectionLeaflets.org](http://electionleaflets.org/?ref=lichfieldlive.co.uk) which is an archive of, well, election leaflets — the kind distributed by politicians to householders, in the days and weeks before local or national elections, and, in the case of 5 May this year, a referendum.

It allows people to see what politicians and their parties are saying, locally and in comparable areas elsewhere, and will be a valuable resource for future historians.

Leaflets are scanned or photographed (a decent mobile phone pic will do) and uploaded by members of the public.

Here are the [leaflets uploaded for Lichfield](http://www.electionleaflets.org/constituencies/lichfield/?ref=lichfieldlive.co.uk). As you can see, at the time of writing, there aren’t that many from this year.
