Lichfield City FC warmed up for Wednesday night’s Staffordshire FA Challenge Quarter Final clash with Newcastle Town with a stunning 6-0 victory over Kenilworth Town KH.

City demolished the league leaders thanks to a Jon Rob Dutton hat-trick and strikes from brother, Paul, skipper Danny Worrall and substitute Sam Geffen.

It was their first game since mid-December and, as boss Dean Gilbert explained, it was definitely worth the wait:

> “The scoreline didn’t flatter us. Kenilworth were not poor and it wasn’t a freak result, we simply got what we deserved. It was the most complete performance I have seen.”

The City boss believes that, with confidence high, City could cause their higher division opponents a few problems on Wednesday night (January 27).

Newcastle are flying high in the Vodkat Premier Division, having won all 23 of their league fixtures to date. However, despite the gulf in resources, Gilbert is hoping to cause a cup upset.

He added:

> “We need to take Saturday’s performance in to Wednesday’s Staffs Cup game. Newcastle are a very good side. They sent a few people down to watch us on Saturday, which shows the difference between the two clubs.

> “We can’t do anything like that. It would cost us a fortune to have them watched and any way we don’t have a car between us capable of going that far!

> “It is a proper David versus Goliath tie and one we are going to enjoy. We have nothing to lose. The onus is on them. I’m proud of the fact we’ve got this far and anything else now is a bonus but my lads will relish playing there under the lights at the Lyme Valley Stadium.

> “It’s a a fantastic ground and a place with a great atmosphere. I’m sure they will take us seriously and won’t change anything but that’s the way we want it. We want to compete with the best and, win or lose, we will give it everything we have got.”
