Lichfield City FC manager Dean Gilbert is ready to ring the changes ahead of his side’s clash with Racing Club Warwick Reserves.

A changed City side picked up a point in last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Continental Star Reserves in a game which they could easily have won.

And despite being pleased with how the likes of reserve team players Lewis Bourne and Neil Sierzega settled into the first team picture in that game, Gilbert is keen to freshen up his side once more for Saturday’s game.

He told The Lichfield Blog:

> “We are at the early part of the season where hard work over pre-season and five hard games are already starting to affect some of the lads. This is only the second year in a high division for these young lads and it’s a shock to some of them who thought they were fit and they’re now discovering how fit they really are. Two seasons ago most of these lads were playing in the Burton and District League so to step up to a league graded at level six is a massive step.
>
> “We have a very good reserve team manager in Paul Holte and we talk all the time about players who could improve my side. I have two 17-year-olds in Will Evans and Lewis Bourne who I hope will be there all season but that’s in their hands. Nobody is safe – even my captain Sam Geffen has had a indifferent start to the season and he is just about managing to hold onto his place in the team.
>
> “But I will be looking at changes for this Saturday’s game as Gareth Downie, Danny Worrall, Scott Warner, Matthew Collins and Rob Burnside are all available for selection. All of these players are capable of improving the side so could well be in contention.”

And despite a steady start to their season, Gilbert insists that he is still looking for improvement and is keen to instill more of a team ethic in his players.

The Lichfield manager explained:

> “So far in the league we have managed two draws and a loss. Some people would be happy with that, but I’m a perfectionist and I’m never satisfied. The lads who have been selected for the first team know they have to work hard for their places. But this isn’t a game for individuals and I think that’s whats happening at the moment players are playing for there place and not for the team and thats something we have to deal with straight away.”

Lichfield City’s game against Racing Club Warwick Reserves tomorrow (September 12) kicks off at 3pm.
