Lichfield City FC cruised into the quarter final of the Staffs FA Vase with a comfortable victory over Eccleshall.

The visitors were quickly into their stride and soon put the home side on the back foot, a Liam Holt header cleared off the line after a Lewis Bourne corner, while Kyle Minto fluffed his lines as he dragged his shot across Bradley Cooper’s goal.

Ashley Bennett was the next guilty culprit as his air shot failed to trouble Cooper.

Lichfield eventually took the lead on the half hour mark as veteran Danny Worrall celebrated his 30th birthday in style as he slammed home a left-footed drive from a partially cleared corner.

The visitors never had it all their own way, though, as keeper Craig Johnson was at his best to keep out a Jordan Elcock shot and keep City’s lead intact going into the break.

If Lichfield were expecting a retaliatory storm from Eccleshall at the start of the second half, it wasn’t to be as it was they who knocked the wind out of the home side’s sails as Leon Morgan went on a run that took him past three defender before he expertly curled the ball around Cooper to double his side’s advantage three minutes after the restart.

The home side were thrown a lifeline on the hour as Jonathon Huckfield brought down the lively Tyrone Wilson in the box, but Elcock fired the spot kick high and wide.

City got a penalty of their own on 75 minutes as Holt’s lung-busting 60 yard run was brought to an end inside the box. The Lichfield man dusted himself down before converting the spot kick to reach double figures for the season.

The visitors continued to create chances at will and substitute Olly Budd was guilty of two missed opportunities, while Minto also failed to trouble Cooper from 20 yards.

Lichfield’s fourth came on the stroke of full-time, a clever knock down from Dan Mcleod left Huckfield with an easy tap in from six yards.

Paul Holt’s men will now travel to West Midland Premier League side Sporting Khalsa to battle for a place in the semi-finals.
