LICHFIELD City suffered defeat in the first step four outing in the club’s history against a tough Anstey Nomads side.

Ivor Green’s men began the brighter of the two sides with winger Jack Edwards proving a threat out wide.

City’s new striker Kevin Hemagou looked to open his account with help from an Edwards cross, but Bradley Wilson defended well.

Anstey had their first attempt on goal and even got the ball in the net before it was ruled out for an alleged foul on Lichfield keeper Brendon Bunn.

Tendai Chitiza was close to breaking the deadlock too, but Leighton McMenemy headed clear.

But Chitiza did manage to find the opener moments later, slotting between Bunn’s legs to make it 1-0.

The first half finished with the hosts having most of the possession. Joe Haines did well to drive into the box with the ball from out wide and forced Conrad Logan to parry the ball.

After the break, Dan Gordon sent in a dangerous long throw for Nomads, but it passed over all the heads in the box and away from danger.

At the other end, City continued to link up well through Sonny Sheasby and Edwards, but the visiting defence stood firm.

Lichfield went close via a goalmouth scramble from a Haines corner but the ball would not find the net.

Nomads again had the ball in the net shortly afterwards, but the offside flag came to the home side’s rescue.

In the dying moments, City desperately looked for a leveller but couldn’t find the breakthrough as they fell to defeat.
