Cllr Val Richards

Cllr Val Richards will remain as a representative for Hammerwich ward, but will also relinquish her role as cabinet member for leisure, communication and tourism at the end of the year.

“Having been a cabinet member for more than ten years and then deputy leader for seven years, I feel the time is right to move aside to allow a flow of new ideas and views to the cabinet,” said Cllr Richards.

“In my time I have worked across a number of service areas, including leisure, housing, environmental health and community services, and have enjoyed working closely with such passionate and dedicated officers and members at Lichfield District Council.

“I am also looking forward to being able to spend more time with my husband and family.

“I will remain a ward councillor for Hammerwich and very much part of the council.”

The leader of the council, Cllr Mike Wilcox, paid tribute to his colleague following the announcement.

“We are really sorry to lose Val from the Cabinet and from her role as Deputy Leader,” he said.

“She has played an important part in the cabinet over the past decade, and I will miss her measured approach to issues and wise advice.”

The leading group will elect a new deputy leader in November. Cllr Val Richards will formally stand down from her roles in December.
