THE organisers of a festive toy appeal say they were “blown away” by the generosity of local people.

Elaine’s Toy and Gift Appeal saw almost 6,000 youngsters receive a Christmas present.

Founder Elaine Hutchings BEM said:

> “We were blown away by the generosity of local businesses and the community, as donations exceeded the previous year.

> “The team work all year round to create awareness of the differing reasons why many children go without a gift at Christmas. Many people assume that this is due to financial issues, but there are many other reasons.

> “We’d like to thank everyone involved in making the appeal such a success once more.”
