LICHFIELD’S women held off a strong University of Birmingham 3rds side to pick up another three points on home turf.

An even first half – despite a green card against the hosts – saw Lichfield open the scoring after a strike from a short corner rebounded back to Olivia Straw who finished with a strong push through the goalkeeper’s legs.

The home side defended a number of attacks from the students, with the the hard work paying off when a second short corner was converted again as Ella Scolyer capitalised after an initial save from the keeper.

The second half saw the University of Birmingham come out brightly with a wave of attacks.

A number of short corners were valiantly defended by Lichfield goalkeeper Phoebe McCleish and her backline, but they couldn’t keep the clean sheet when one eventually made it over the line via a deflection.

McCleish produced a number of crucial saves to keep her side a goal to the good and earn the victory.
