Lichfield’s MP has revealed he hopes the new-look Friarsgate development will be an improvement on the “revolting” design originally planned.

The multi-million pound project to regenerate the Birmingham Road area of the city has moved a step closer to reality after [a £2.6million funding boost](//lichfieldlive.co.uk/2015/01/29/lichfields-long-awaited-friarsgate-redevelopment-given-2-6million-funding-boost/).

Michael Fabricant shared his views on the project, admitting it was “good news” for his constituency.

But he told his Twitter followed that he had been assured the revised scheme would have a new look.

“I told them that the first design – white concrete slabs – was disgusting,” the MP tweeted.

“I am told this new design will be brick and wood. However, I have yet to see the final design so watch this space.”

It is hoped that the new funding, which will be used to redevelop the bus station area, will kickstart the wider scheme which has hit the buffers in recent years.

Mr Fabricant added: “The £2.66million will be essential for the project.

“The money will Pump Prime this privately funded development.”
