The Prime Minister has outlined plans for pupils from Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 to go back to schools across the country next month. But Gemma Grainger, headteacher of Chadsmead Primary Academy, said they would definitely not reopen on 1st June – and she added that the Government still needed to meet all tests before children could return. In a letter to parents, she said: > “The Government still seems intent on working towards a return for some pupils in June, and we are preparing accordingly. > > “In order for the school and staff to be ready for the opening, we will be taking 1st June as a training day – no children will be in school. > > “This will ensure all staff members can prepare resources, classrooms and train on the new procedures in school. > > “It will also allow for a thorough clean before the further opening to some year groups.” > > Gemma Grainger, Chadsmead Primary Academy The letter comes after a Burntwood headteacher [warned that the demands on staff meant that the reopening would see changes to home learning provision](https://lichfieldlive.co.uk/burntwood-headteacher-says-return-to-class-for-some-children-will-see-changes-to-home-learning-provision-for-pupils-in-other-year-groups/) for those children are not eligible to go back to class.
