A NEW feature is set to be unveiled at a Lichfield pub.

The George and Dragon has created The Den as part of an £80,000 investment project which has seen a former storeroom transformed.

It will feature a dedicated bar and seating area which can be used for private functions.

The space will be officially opened by former Aston Villa player Tony Morley today (25th July).

A Pride-themed launch event will also take place over the weekend, featuring live music and karaoke.

Licensee Chris Whelan took over The George and Dragon in March 2024, working with bosses at Admiral Taverns on the revamp.

He said:

> “I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved with The Den. It’s a fantastic new space for our community and I can’t wait to welcome everyone for the grand opening.
>
> “Having Tony Morley here to cut the ribbon is the icing on the cake.
>
> “Since taking over, I’ve loved every minute. The community have been so supportive, and of course I couldn’t have done this without the support of Admiral Taverns and my wife Emma.”

Richard Skinner, business development manager at Admiral Taverns, said:

> “Since taking over the pub, Chris’ passion and commitment to creating a welcoming, vibrant community hub has been fantastic to see – and the transformation of The Den is a testament to all his hard work.
>
> “We’re delighted to support Chris as he continues to build on the pub’s success and we’re excited to see The Den become a real focal point for locals and visitors alike.”
