Ed McMahon

A Lichfield racehorse trainer has revealed that a proposed high speed rail line would leave his entire business in limbo.

The planned HS2 route would cut through Ed McMahon’s Horsley Brook Farm, splitting his facilities in two – a move he believes would be like “cutting a runway in half”.

And if the line does go ahead on its current allignment, Mr McMahon admits he would be left with stables that are unfit for purpose – and potentially bring to an end his family’s long professional association with the area.

He explained:

> “Once it \[the line\] goes straight through the farm, it will pretty much render it useless. We’re not like a factory unit or anything like that, we can’t just move up the road – ours is a specialised case.
>
> “With the amount of investment we have put in over the last 17 years, I’m probably not going to see any of that coming back to me.
>
> “They seem to be pretty adamant that they just want to bulldoze through, judge, jury and executioner, that’s what they want to be – and that’s the frightening part.”
