A Lichfield racing driver has hailed his first outing for his new team as “awesome”.

Adam Christodoulou got behind the wheel of the Black Falcon Mercedes SLS GT3 for the first time competitively – and produced a podium finish at Monza.

Together with team-mates Klaas Hummel and Steve Jans, the city man guided the car to third in class. They were also the first Mercedes home in the Blancpain Endurance Series.

“The race was awesome,” Christodoulou said. “After a poor qualifying position I was ready to go home. I didn’t expect that we would be able to pull it back so clearly.

“The Black Falcon crew did an awesome job in the pits and both Klaas and Steve had faultless drives. All I had to do was follow their lead.

“It’s been one of the most unexpected and satisfying results I’ve had to date, and one of the most exciting races I’ve been in.

“What a fantastic way to kick off the new season.”

Christodoulou returns to action at the German Nurburgring circuit on April 27.
