Lichfield secured victory in their visit to winless Nuneaton – but it was not one of their better performances.

It took 17 minutes of fairly even play before the Myrtle Greens took the lead. Two clever flat passes allowed Paul Maxwell-Keys to score twice in five minutes, Charlie Milner converted both on a flawless afternoon of kicking.

Nuneaton were allowed back in the game and managed two of their own – neither converted – from Zebedee Gibson and Sam Wallis to leave the hosts 14-10 down at the break.

But Lichfield stretched their lead as brisk approach play left a huge gap for Maxwell-Keys to float through untouched.

A simple scrum move up the blindside from just outside their own 22 ended seconds later in the left hand corner with Tom Day diving over.

The visitors were starting to find their range now and another break out was finished with aplomb by Rhys Davies as he brushed aside the breakdown guard from ten metres out.

The signs looked hopeful for the city side, but the yellow cards put paid to any more scores.

It was actually a case of holding on after the hosts grabbed two late tries from Michael Volaikisuva and Tobias Trafford as Lichfield ran out 35-20 winners.
