The Friary School pupil qualified for Glasgow in all three breaststroke distances for the 13-14 age group.

Her success follows team-mate Penny Hurst who swam in the English Nationals last year.

A spokesperson said: “Bryony managed a record breaking first swim in the 50m race, knocking a quarter of a second off her personal best and improving her Lichfield club record in the process to finish in a time of 35.04 seconds, which left her 12th and a reserve finalist

“It was an incredible achievement, albeit frustrating to be so close to making the final.”

Her second race on Wednesday saw the 14-year-old take on the 200m distance, going into the competition ranked 15th but leaving the water with another 12th place and reserve finalist spot.

She will now look ahead to her favourite distance of 100m.

Bryony said: “I’m overwhelmed by everyone’s support.

“This journey has only been made possible by the generosity of everyone at the club.”

There will be more national exposure for Lichfield Swimming Club on 5th August when Ezra Lambert takes part in an open water competition.

The recent successes for the club come as they face a fight to retain their home pool.
