# Lichfield village pub to offer unique food service for canal boaters

A canal-side pub in a Lichfield village is proud to be offering the slowest takeaway food service in the region!

The newly-refurbished Crown Inn, which nestles alongside the Trent and Mersey Canal at Handsacre, is offering a ‘float in’ food service that will take just as long as you want.

Licensee Tracey Barnett explained:

> “In these days of drive in, walk through, made-in-a-minute, takeaway food we want to offer something completely different for the boaters who are gently making their way past The Crown. If they give us a call and let us know when they are due to arrive we can have their meals ready for them with someone waiting at the canalside just to hand it over as they cruise by.

> “Most of the boaters are on their holidays so they don’t always want to be cooking and rushing about. With our takeaway service they can enjoy a great meal while they continue to tootle along on their journey. They can call in on their way up the canal and order a meal for when they pass us again travelling in the opposite direction a week later – we don’t care when they want it we just guarantee it will be waiting for them.”

The historic pub, which was actually built before the canal was created, is already attracting a good deal of ‘boating trade’ – particularly when the sunshine decides to make an appearance.

Tracey added:

> “The beer garden has proved a great temptation for many boaters and we are starting to see a lot of families now that the school holidays are here. The Crown has always been popular with boaters and we are determined to build on that tradition.”
