# Lichfield woman fined for letting spare rooms without a licence

A Lichfield woman has been ordered to pay more than £3,300 after failing to get a licence to rent out spare rooms in her house.

Natalie Reilly, of Chatterton Avenue, pleaded guilty at Stafford Magistrates’ after a prosecution brought by Lichfield District Council.

The 36-year-old had taken on four tenants in her home without a licence. Officials also identified fire safety and heating issues.

Reilly was fined £1,625, ordered to pay court costs of £1,613 and a victim surcharge of £120, a total of £3,358.

Councillor Colin Greatorex said: “We’re pleased the court took this case seriously, as it illustrates just how important it is for landlords to be properly licensed.

“Licensing ensures that management standards and housing conditions in the private rented sector are maintained.”
