# Lichfield’s Anglo-Saxon links to be celebrated in midsummer festival

The Anglo-Saxon link to Lichfield and the surrounding area is being celebrated at a festival in the city.

Lichfield Cathedral will be the venue for the midsummer event that will celebrate Lichfield’s Anglo-Saxon History and the Staffordshire Hoard on July 24.

Aerra Lida – which means midsummer in Anglo-Saxon – will take place from 10am to 4pm and feature:

- an Anglo-Saxon encampment
- traditional music
- battle skirmishes
- Anglo-Saxon themed craft workshops for children
- fire making, food preparation and leather working
- story telling and music workshops for children
- a treasure hunt with a £100 prize
- guided tours of Lichfield Cathedral.

Reverend Dr Pete Wilcox, Canon Chancellor of Lichfield Cathedral, said:

> “Aerra Lida is set to be alive with activity – from displays of Anglo-Saxon crafts and battle skirmishes to craft workshops and more. We hope it will be a fun and fitting way to celebrate Lichfield’s Anglo-Saxon history and the discovery of the Staffordshire Hoard in Hammerwich a year ago.

> “We’re grateful to the Arts Council who gave us the money to host the event, and we hope lots of people will join us to discover more about their Anglo-Saxon roots, and experience just a taster of what life was like in the age of the Staffordshire Hoard.”
