# Local roads included on list set for surface dressing works in coming months

A PROGRAMME of “preventative maintenance” is being rolled out on local roads .

Hundreds of routes will undergo surface dressing in the coming months in a bid to reduce the risk of potholes.

Staffordshire County Council said the work – which involves repairing carriageways before applying a new top surface – could prolong the life of roads by up to 15 years.

Local routes earmarked for improvements include Falkland Road, Limburg Avenue, Sainte Foy Avenue, Walsall Road, Trent Valley Road, Burton Road, Birmingham Road, Bird Street, Stychbrook Gardens, Gloucester Close, Norwich Close, Southwark Close, Truro Close and Worcester Close.

Other locations include Kings Bromley Lane, Armitage Road, New Road and Rugeley Road in Handsacre and Armitage, while Little Aston will see works on Aldridge Road and Little Aston Lane.

Drivers will see improved surfaces on Watling Street in Mile Oak, Lichfield Street in Fazeley and on Croxall Road in Alrewas.

Cllr Peter Mason, cabinet member for strategic highways, said:

> “We plan our surface dressing programme to keep disruption to a minimum, and the work is usually carried out under rolling road closures.

> “Each site is prepared carefully and we work with local communities to manage access and keep traffic moving safely while the treatment is laid.

> “It’s a highly coordinated operation, with every stage needing to run smoothly, from applying the binder to spreading the chippings and rolling them in.

> “Our crews are making the most of the good weather so we can treat more roads and help them last longer.

> “By doing this preventative work now, we can protect the network and reduce the need for more disruptive, costly repairs later.”

The programme is scheduled to run through until the autumn.
