A LOCAL eight-year-old boy has raised more than £3,200 to support the families of ill children and give them a comfortable place to stay while they are in hospital.

Rorie Adams, from Armitage, has completed 11 Junior Park Runs in aid of The Sick Children's Trust.

The funds are enough to support families for 80 nights at the charity's Home from Home at Sheffield Children's Hospital.

In recognition of his achievement, Rorie has been honoured with an engraved star on the charity's Wall of Stars and a plaque indicating he is sponsoring a room for three months.

Rorie, who plays for the Comets at AFC Fradley, took on the fundraising challenge to give back to the organisation that supported his own family during a difficult time.

His younger sister, Robyn, joined him for every run, cheering him on from start to finish.

The Home from Home accommodation allows families to stay just minutes from their child's bedside rather than returning home or paying for hotels during moments of crisis.

Rorie's mother, Kat Adams, said:

> "When Rorie was born his condition became critical and he required specialist neurological treatment.
>
> "He was at hospital in Burton and we were told to go home and pack as he was being taken to Sheffield Children's Hospital.
>
> "It was a worrying time and we imagined we would have to stay in hotels, but The Sick Children’s Trust gave us one of their rooms at Magnolia House so we could stay near the ward.
>
> "He had his first brain surgery there and then daily procedures. Taking away the stress of having to travel daily and sort out hotels was just incredible. Knowing we didn't have to leave the ward and that we could be by his side the whole time, meant so much.
>
> "We are so proud of the fundraising Rorie has done, knowing that he is helping other families stay close to their children means a lot to him and us."
