A MAN from the Lichfield area who sexually abused a girl has been jailed for more than a decade.

The individual, who police have not named in order to protect the legal right of the victim to lifelong anonymity, was sentenced to 12 years in prison with an extended licence period of one year at Wolverhampton Crown Court on 24th September.

The man was found guilty at an earlier hearing of three counts of sexual assault on a girl and one count of causing/inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

As part of his sentencing, he was also served with a ten-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and put on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely.

Detective Constable Karolina Debinska**,** from Staffordshire Police's public protection unit, said:

> "This was an abhorrent case of sexual abuse where the offender has now been rightfully put behind bars following a robust investigation.
>
> "We know the challenges that face survivors of sexual abuse. That’s why it’s so important that anyone who has contact with a child should look for unexplained changes in that child’s demeanour, appearance, behaviour and personality.
>
> "It’s also vital that any adult’s inappropriate language, commentary or behaviour around children is reported as a concern, as these too may be subtle signs of something wrong.
>
> "Knowing the warning signs of abuse and acting may just be the reason why a child is able to escape an abuser and an abusive environment."
